The police registered a case in connection with the assault on a young man in Kodannur here on Wednesday. The attack was carried out by a group of youths alleging that an auto-rickshaw nearly hit them. The victim, Akhil Krishna, a native of Chenaam and a passenger in the auto, was brutally assaulted by the group.

The incident occurred in front of the Kodannur bar at 10.30 pm on February 2. Akhil was hit on the head with a helmet and slashed on the mouth and nose with a bike key, resulting in a fractured nasal bone and broken teeth. Akhil is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thrissur.

Following his complaint, the Cherpu police have registered an attempted murder case against nine individuals. The police stated that the accused are currently absconding.
