Absence of ramps hampers emergency care at Adimaly Taluk Hospital

Adimaly: The absence of ramp facilities in the multi-storey buildings at the Adimaly Taluk Hospital has become a major concern. The five-storey building that houses the Emergency Department lacks a ramp, and whenever the lift goes out of service, patients are forced to be carried up the stairs.
Adding to the problem, the newly constructed OP Block and cath-lab CCU units also do not have ramps. This has caused severe inconvenience for patients, especially those coming in for treatment in departments like orthopaedics and dialysis.
Following the recent building collapse at Kottayam Medical College, authorities have decided to vacate the structurally weak building currently used for the labour room and delivery ward. There is now a growing demand to relocate these facilities to the emergency department block, where a ward with 20 beds is available. However, the lack of a ramp in that building has raised fresh concerns.
