Five injured in armed gang attack at Edakkanam Riverview point in Kannur

Iritty: Five people were seriously injured after being attacked by an armed gang at the Edakkanam riverview point near here.
The injured have been identified as Shaji Kuttiyadan (47), K K Sujith (38), R V Satheesan (42), K Jithesh (40) and P Renjith (29). All five sustained serious injuries and were initially treated at the Iritty Taluk Hospital before being shifted to a private hospital in Thalassery.

According to eyewitnesses, the gang arrived in three vehicles and launched a violent assault on the victims. While trying to flee the scene, one of the vehicles the assailants had used veered off the road and plunged down the riverbank at Edakkanam.
The Riverview area, a popular spot that attracts large crowds during weekends and holidays, turned chaotic during the attack.
Witnesses said a group had arrived at the location the previous evening and got into an argument with some local residents. They allegedly left the spot and returned later with more people, leading to the violent confrontation.
The Iritty police reached the scene shortly after the incident and took the vehicle that fell into the riverbank into custody.
