Newly constructed labour office in Munnar turns into shelter for cattle and anti-Socials

Munnar: Have some decency! What stands right before our eyes is a building constructed with ₹2.5 crore from the public exchequer and it's going to waste.
The Labour Office Complex in Munnar, completed a year ago, is already falling into disrepair without having functioned a single day. Instead of serving the public, the building has become a shelter for stray dogs, cattle, and by evening, even anti-social elements. With its premises overrun by weeds and bushes, the facility presents a sorry picture.
According to the Labour Department, the building remains unusable due to the lack of a compound wall and drinking water connection.
The complex was envisioned to bring together various Labour Department offices in Munnar, which have long operated out of rented buildings, under one roof. The building was inaugurated by the Labour Minister on October 21 last year, but has remained locked and unused ever since.
The proposed facility was meant to accommodate the Deputy Labour Office, Assistant Labour Office and the Inspector of Plantations Office. For now, these offices continue to function from rented spaces owned by a private company near Moolakkada in Old Munnar.
