Manjeri: Saleem Padavanna, a Guinness World Record holder, staged a solo protest on Tuesday demanding that the General Hospital at Manjeri be retained at its current location. After taking out a protest march through the major roads of the city holding a placard, Saleem stood in front of the hospital until 1 PM.
According to Saleem, the hospital currently stands on land that includes 1.08 acres belonging to his ancestral family and the hospital building itself is located in an area where children are pursuing their education. He argued that the plan to shift the hospital to Tanur in order to set up a new facility there is unjustified.
“This hospital, which has long been a refuge for many, was built through the collective efforts and contributions of the people. Therefore, retaining it in Manjeri is a public demand,” said Saleem, who is also a curator of artefacts.
