Vaikom school students plant 100 marigold saplings to usher in Onam

Vaikom: Udayanapuram Panchayat President P K Anandavalli on Wednesday inaugurated the ‘Onathinu Oru Kotta Poovu’ (A Basket of Flowers for Onam) project at the Government UP School in Akkarappadom, marking a colourful start to the festive season.
As part of the initiative, a vibrant flower garden was set up on the school premises, with 100 marigold saplings carefully planted in grow bags. The cheerful yellow blooms are expected to brighten the campus in time for Onam celebrations, instilling a love for nature and tradition among students.
The saplings were provided by the Udayanapuram Agricultural Office, reflecting a strong collaboration between the education and agriculture departments.
The launch event saw enthusiastic participation from PTA President P V Kishor Kumar, ward member T Prasad, School Development Council member A P Nandakumar, Headmaster E R Natesan, and staff members V Anusha, K A Anju, Smitha Menon, M G Ambily, Praseena Shankar, and R C Sheela Kumari, among others.
With the fragrance of marigolds and the spirit of Onam in the air, the initiative aims to cultivate not just flowers, but also a sense of community, creativity, and cultural pride among young minds.
