Kanjirapuzha: The state government has approved a major tourism development project worth ₹167 crore at Kanjirapuzha, encompassing the reservoir, garden and adjacent vacant land. The initiative will be carried out over 50 acres through a public-private partnership model.
Kozhikode-based FSIT Redefine Destination Private Limited has been granted the rights to implement and operate tourism projects in the area for the next 30 years. The company is expected to begin work shortly after formalising land acquisition through a consent letter, as per the government order.
Local MLA K Santhakumari said the initiative would transform Kanjirapuzha into one of South India’s premier tourism destinations.
The project is being developed under the state’s Irrigation Tourism Policy, which aims to repurpose unused land around irrigation department dams for tourism. The Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation (KIIDC), acting as the nodal agency, had invited expressions of interest from private firms. FSIT’s proposal was selected as the best and the government recently granted formal approval after completing the necessary procedures.
The upcoming project will utilise land currently under the Kanjirapuzha irrigation scheme, including its scenic garden and nearby vacant plots. Planned attractions include a water theme park, snow world, bird park, marine oceanarium, giant Ferris wheel, boating facilities, 3D theatre, ropeway, glass hanging bridge, musical fountain, laser show, resort, various types of aquariums and a hotel.
