Kerala to host week-long Onam celebrations from September 3

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government will host a week-long official Onam celebration starting September 3, with Thiruvonam falling on September 5. A meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan finalised the schedule, which will conclude with a grand cultural procession in the state capital, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
The District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) will coordinate the festivities. The Chief Minister has directed all departments to work together to ensure the celebrations are conducted in a grand and extensive manner.
The stretch from Kowdiar to Manacaud in Thiruvananthapuram will be marked as a festival zone. The capital will be illuminated, and all events will follow the state’s green protocol.
Kudumbashree will organise Onam fairs across districts and is cultivating vegetables and flowers ahead of the festival. “Harvesting will be completed before Onam,” the statement added. The government will distribute “Onam kits” with essential provisions through both online and offline channels.
Supplyco will conduct Onam fairs at the district, taluk and mandalam levels, while Horticorp outlets will boost vegetable supply across the state. Several ministers and senior officials attended the planning meeting alongside the Chief Minister.
