Kodungallur: The power transformers installed at various locations under the KSEB’s Kodungallur and Shringapuram sections do not have fencing, posing danger to the public. The transformer in front of the school in Lokamaleshwaram JTS Road as well as the ones at Padakulam – Azheekode Road and near Padakulam Uzhuvath Ayyappankavu temple under Kalpaka Road and Shringapuram sections lack proper fencing or other safety enclosures.
The three fuse carriers are seen exposed in many transformers. Vehicles can hit them while parking as some of these transformers are on the road side. Fire and sparks are often seen on the transformer near Padakulam Uzhuvath Ayyappankavu temple.
Besides, the nearby houses and shops face losses due to fuse getting blown. A major incident had happened a few months ago when the transformer behind the mini civil station had released excess electricity. The electricity supply to the area where the court and the civil station function was completely cut off.
Besides, computers and other electrical appliances in the nearby offices and other establishments too were damaged. The local residents were hoping that the present crisis could be averted when the Kodungallur 66 KV sub station is raised to 110 substation. However, the electricity supply still gets disrupted at many places despite renewing the substation and raising it to 110 KV.
