Chalakkudy: Students of Chalakkudy Government High School won't be limiting themselves to theories in their textbooks to know about the functioning of electric motors or soil conditioning for crops. They will assimilate them through hands-on experience.

A new chapter in skill-based learning began at Government East High School, Chalakkudy, with the launch of the Creative Corner. The project is aimed at fostering both academic and non-academic growth among students. The initiative, worth Rs 5 lakh, was inaugurated by MLA Saneeshkumar Joseph.

Implemented by Samagra Shiksha Kerala with the support of Cochin University of Science and Technology, the project targets upper primary classes in the general education stream. It is designed to bridge the gap between knowledge and work by introducing students to a range of vocational skills.

As part of the programme, students will receive hands-on training in areas such as tailoring, electrical and electronic work, bulb-making, bag-making, and agriculture. The income generated through these activities will go directly to the students, allowing them to earn while they learn.

The project aims to cultivate a healthy work ethic and reinforce the idea that education and productive labour go hand in hand.

Municipal Chairperson Shibu Valappan presided over the function. Also present were Municipal Standing Committee Chairperson M M Anilkumar, Thrissur District Programme Officer K B Brijy, Municipal Ward Councillor T D Elizabeth, BPC Lijo Jose, School Headmistress N S Sheeba, School PTA President Dhaneesh, PTA Vice President Sheeba Ravikumar, MPTA President Soshya Sajeev, Senior Teacher E G Udayan and Staff Secretary Naina Austin, who also addressed the gathering.
