Kalpetta: With the intensity of rainfall subsiding, the Wayanad district administration has lifted the ban on tourism activities at several popular destinations, as well as entry restrictions to landslide-hit areas.
District Collector Dr Meghasree, who also chairs the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), issued the revised orders on Tuesday following a 'Yellow Alert' issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), predicting only mild to moderate rainfall in the coming days.
According to a press release from the district administration, tourism activities can now resume at all spots except Kuruvadweep, Kanthanpara, Soochipara, Neelimala View Point, Chembra trekking route, Meenmutti waterfalls, and Thollayiramkandi. Adventure tourism centres also fall under this relaxation.
However, the ban on granite quarry operations and the use of JCBs for construction work will continue across the district.
In a separate order, the DDMA has also lifted the entry ban to the landslide-affected Chooralmala and Mundakkai villages in the Meppadi panchayat. The ban, which had been imposed on wards 10, 11, and 12, restricted all human movement, including the travel of plantation workers in tea, coffee, and cardamom estates.
The DDMA has directed that labourers must follow safety instructions issued by the Meppadi panchayat secretary and the Vellarimala village officer during periods of adverse weather. Workers are advised to remain in safe zones if officials issue weather-related warnings.
