Malappuram: T P Haris, a member of the Malappuram District Panchayat, has been suspended from the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) over allegations of corruption. Haris, who represents the Makkaraparamba division and is also a district-level leader of the Youth League, was suspended pending an internal inquiry for allegedly breaching party discipline, according to a statement from the IUML state committee.

The allegations against him include collecting nearly ₹20 crore from individuals in connection with district panchayat development projects. He is also accused of using proxies to secure public works contracts and of offering influence in the procurement of medical equipment for institutions such as the Mankada Community Health Centre and Shihab Thangal Hospital in Tirur.

IUML Malappuram District Secretary P Abdul Hameed confirmed that the party had received complaints regarding Haris. He said the party has launched a detailed investigation and that the suspension is a temporary measure until the probe concludes. Further action will depend on the inquiry’s findings.
