Kanhangad: A 14-year-old girl from Kasaragod delivered a baby girl at home on Wednesday afternoon, reportedly without her family’s knowledge of the pregnancy. She was rushed to a private hospital in Kanhangad after experiencing heavy bleeding. The girl is a Class 10 student.

Hospital authorities said the girl was eight months pregnant. Both the teenager and the newborn are currently stable.

According to the police, the girl is not in a condition to give a statement. Her mother told police that the family had no prior knowledge of the pregnancy. A case has been registered by the Hosdurg police based on a complaint filed by the girl’s mother.

It remains unclear whether the incident involved sexual abuse. An investigation is underway.
