Perumbavoor: Authorities have cancelled the bonnet numbers of around 300 autorickshaws operating in the town, citing various violations. The bonnet number system, introduced in 2011 as a joint initiative of the Municipal Council, Perumbavoor Joint RTO, police, and autorickshaw unions, was aimed at curbing unauthorised autorickshaw operations within town limits. It initially covered 900 vehicles across 22 designated stands, including those at Yathri Nivas, the new private bus stand, and Jyothi stand.

Of the original 900, nearly 300 autorickshaws have now had their bonnet numbers cancelled. At a recent meeting of the Goods and Passenger Auto Rickshaw Union (INTUC)– Perumbavoor Assembly Constituency Committee, members demanded that the now-vacant bonnet numbers be permanently reallotted to vehicles currently operating without valid permits. They also raised concerns about continued unauthorised operations at key stands and the illegal parking of cars in the autorickshaw stand near the post office.

District vice president David Thoppilan inaugurated the meeting. Assembly constituency committee president Rafeeq Konnamkudy presided. INTUC district secretary T J Varghese, assembly constituency secretary Naseer Saga, and Vengoor Mandalam president Biju also spoke.
