Anthikkad: Nattika MLA CC Mukundan slipped on the wet floor inside his leaking house and sustained a knee injury on Thursday, which confined him to bed. He stumbled and fell while entering his house after returning from former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan's funeral.
Upon opening the main door and entering the hall, the MLA fell without realising there was water on the floor. Due to pain and swelling in his leg, he sought treatment at a private clinic. Doctors have advised two weeks of rest.
The small house of the CPI MLA is located on a five-and-a-half-cent land near the Government Hospital Road. The house, which leaks during the rain, is now also under threat of attachment due to a bank loan.
The hall and bedrooms leak when it rains. Once a hut, it was tiled later. However, the roofs of the front veranda and kitchen were concreted at the insistence of friends, so those areas do not leak.
In 2015, he had taken a loan from the Karamukku Co-operative Bank for his daughter's marriage expenses. When the loan was renewed during the last assembly election, the total amount outstanding reached ₹18 lakh. The outstanding dues have pushed the property to the verge of seizure by the bank.
Although he thought of renovating the house after becoming an MLA, his MLA honorarium would only be available after the repayment of the car he had purchased.
He now shares that he often feels it would have been better if he had renovated his house instead of buying the car then. C C Mukundan was previously an office assistant at the Anthikkad Cheth Thozhilali Co-operative Society.
The MLA recalls that when he left his previous job, he received only ₹65,000 as benefits because his attendance was low due to taking leave for party activities.
