Kottiyam: A citizens' forum has once again approached the District Legal Services Authority against the highway construction, ignoring the safety of road users.
The Kottiyam Pauravedi had earlier complained to the Legal Services Authority. It was settled after the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the contractor assured safety measures.
The Pauravedi, however, has now alleged that NHAI officials, responsible for overseeing the works, remained mere spectators even as the construction caused several accidents.
The collective alleged that a lack of warning boards and pothole-filled roads caused the accidents.
In its memorandum submitted to the Legal Authority, the Pauravedi demanded immediate measures to prevent accidents and compensation for those injured in mishaps. Accepting the petition, Sub-judge and District Legal Services Authority Secretary Dr. T. Amritha directed the respondents to appear before the authority on August 2.
Pauravedi President Kottiyam N Ajith Kumar approached the Legal Services Authority after a woman scooter rider was grievously injured when a concrete slab fell on her at Kottiyam Junction.
