Alappuzha: A coconut tree fell onto the railway track in Mararikulam, disrupting rail traffic on the Alappuzha-Ernakulam route. Several trains, including the Jan Shatabdi Express and Alappuzha-Ernakulam Passenger have been halted as efforts to clear the tree from the track are underway. According to reports, the tree was uprooted by strong winds in the region.

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Alappuzha on Saturday. Meanwhile, an orange alert will prevail in the district until 10 am as heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is expected.

Strong winds and heavy rain wreaked havoc in various parts of the state on Friday night. Uprooted trees disrupted road traffic and snapped power lines in numerous places.
