Thrissur: A sudden wind swirl accompanied by a thunderstorm caused widespread damage in Padiyoor, Irinjalakuda on Saturday morning. Several trees were uprooted, and the roof of a house was blown away in the intense gusts.

In Chettiyalthara, the GI sheet roof of Chirayath Rosy’s house was completely ripped off around 6.30 am. The sheets, covering about 1,500 square feet, were hurled away by the wind. Fortunately, no one was injured, though family members were inside the house at the time. However, electrical wiring and electronic appliances were damaged. The estimated loss is around ₹5 lakh.

Nearby, a large tamarind tree fell on the house of Charunthara Anand near Annapoorneshwari Road. At the residence of Elanjikkot Mohanan, nearly ten valuable trees were broken or uprooted.

Several other parts of the Padiyoor region also reported similar destruction, with trees felled by the storm. Power supply to the area has been disrupted following the incident.
