Fishing boat caught in sea storm overturns off Baypore coast in Kozhikode

A fibre boat, which was returning after fishing in the sea off the Beypore coast, overturned in the coastal waters due to strong winds and rough seas. The three fishermen on board were rescued by the Fisheries Marine Enforcement. Abdul Salam (50), Kalach Das (43) from 24 Parganas, Kolkata, and Sakil Ansari (19) from Kolkata were rescued with minor injuries and brought ashore.
The incident involved a boat owned by Askar from Chaliyam West, which had set out to sea from the Chaliyam Fish Landing Centre at 1 PM on the 25th. While returning after fishing, as it reached the coastal waters of Beypore, the boat was caught in a huge wave and overturned.
The fishermen immediately swam. Other fishermen who noticed the accident informed the Fisheries department and the Coastal Police. A rescue boat from the Fisheries department arrived and brought the fishermen to the shore.
The boat, nets, engines, and fishing equipment were lost in the accident. The fish caught by the fishermen also fell into the sea. The loss is estimated to be ₹3.5 lakh.
