Kanhangad: Gas from an overturned tanker has been successfully transferred to other tankers by Friday night. Efforts to transfer the gas began by 8.30 pm and was completed at 11.40 pm. The traffic in the highway was restored after the tankers carrying gas left for Mangaluru.

The tanker carrying cooking gas overturned at Kanhangad Kovval Store at Thursday noon. The tanker veered off the road and landed in a roadside pit while trying to avoid collision with a private bus that had swerved across the lane at great speed.

The authorities had tried to raise the tanker on Friday when it was found that there wasn’t any leakage. However, the pressure gauge valve was damaged while lifting the tanker and gas began to leak.

Meanwhile, the district collector appreciated the officials who had acted promptly to avert a major disaster. The police had registered a case against the driver of the private bus that triggered the accident.
