Snapped power lines kill four across Kerala, elderly farmer in Kasaragod latest victim

Malappuram: Four people, including a teenager and three elderly individuals, died in separate incidents across Kerala after coming into contact with broken live electrical wires.
In the latest incident, an 80-year-old farmer Melath Kunjundan Nair died of electrocution after stepping on a snapped power line in his field in Koliyadukkam, Kasaragod. A cow also died in the incident. The tragedy occurred around 9.30 am on Sunday when Kunjundan had gone to tether his cow. When he did not return, his son and neighbours went to the field and found the cow lying lifeless next to a snapped power line. After the electricity board switched off the supply, they found Kunjundan's body nearby. He was declared dead on arrival at the hospital. A dairy farmer, he used to frequent the field every morning. His body has been shifted to the Kasaragod General Hospital. Wife: Savithri. Children: Shantha, Shyamala Kumari, Rajeshwari. Sons-in-law: Dileep, Sabith, Manikandan.
In Attingal, Thiruvananthapuram, 85-year-old Leelamani of Kuruvila House, Alangode, was found dead near her house with the broken end of a snapped service wire in her hand. The wire, which ran from an electric post to her home, is believed to have snapped when a banana tree fell on it. She had informed a local electrician the previous day about a power outage. Her body was discovered around 10.30 am on Sunday when the electrician arrived to inspect the issue. The incident likely occurred on Saturday evening.

In Palakkad, 75-year-old Marimuthu of Olasheri Palayam, Kodump, was electrocuted around 6 am on Sunday while collecting coconuts from his farmland. He is believed to have accidentally stepped on a live wire that had snapped from the motor supply line. His sister Nalliyamma found his body when she went searching for him. His funeral has been held.

In Vengara, Malappuram, 17-year-old Abdul Wadood, a higher secondary student at Al Ihsan English School, died after coming into contact with a fallen live wire while bathing in a stream. The incident occurred around 4 pm on Sunday at Vettuthode, about 4 km from his home. He was trying to return to the bank after swimming downstream when he touched the submerged wire. He was the son of the late Pullat Abdul Majeed and Safiya of Achanambalam, Kannamangalam.
Siblings: Raziath, Dawood, Ismail, Muhammed Arif, Aaliya, Muhinuddin Shah. He will be laid to rest at Achanambalam Juma Masjid.
