Kottayam: Two power poles installed by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) near the Kanjikuzhi Signal on KK Road are standing without stable foundations, raising serious safety concerns. The only thing keeping them upright appears to be the tension of the power cables connected to them. With their lower sections completely rotten and detached from the ground, the poles seem to be suspended mid-air, supported solely by 11 KV power lines and connected cables. They also carry fuse carriers and other electrical components, further compounding the risk.

To make matters worse, this stretch of road regularly experiences heavy traffic congestion. A sudden gust of wind or downpour could easily bring the poles crashing down, potentially triggering a domino effect involving adjacent poles. The danger is amplified by the presence of a busy taxi stand and several commercial establishments directly opposite the leaning structures, putting both pedestrians and motorists at serious risk. The KSEB has said that it is currently assessing the situation with corrective action so far.
