Padinjarethara: Private bus operators have launched a protest by refusing to enter the bus stand here, citing the widespread parking of private vehicles within the premises. Bus employees allege that the entry of these vehicles is obstructing the smooth entry and exit of buses, making it difficult for them to pick up and drop off passengers. They also complain that the panchayat has long ignored their repeated requests to set up basic facilities at the stand.

According to the bus crew, the absence of proper space to stop buses in front of the passenger waiting shelter is causing hardship for commuters as well. Although complaints have been submitted to both the police and the panchayat, no action has been taken so far. Left with no alternative, the employees say they have been forced to launch the protest. They maintain that buses will not enter the stand until these issues are resolved.

Panchayat authorities, however, argue that the prolonged stoppage of buses near commercial establishments and offices inside the stand has been disrupting business and inconveniencing staff and visitors. To address this, certain sections have been cordoned off using chains, which the authorities say prompted the protest. Traders too claim that buses idling for extended periods inside the stand have negatively affected their businesses.

A meeting held yesterday between the panchayat and the bus operators to resolve the issue ended without a consensus. Following this, the bus employees stated they would file a formal complaint with the district collector. With buses now stopping on the congested roads in the town, passengers are experiencing significant difficulties. The situation is particularly troubling for students, who are finding it hard to board buses at these crowded points.
