Kozhikode: Youth League State General Secretary PK Firoz on Sunday dismissed criticism regarding the arrest of his brother, PK Bujair, who was held for allegedly attacking police officers and suspected involvement in drug trafficking. Addressing the media, Firoz asserted that his brother must be punished if found guilty.
“He is an independent individual. My brother does not support my politics. In fact, he used to mock my political stance through his Facebook posts. I am not answerable for his actions,” Firoz said.
PK Bujair, brother of Youth League leader PK Firoz, was arrested on Sunday for allegedly assaulting a police officer on duty. The 35-year-old, a resident of Pathimangalam in Kozhikode, reportedly attacked the officer near Choolaamvazhal bus stop after the police reached there for an inspection based on a tip-off regarding a possible drug deal.
Police claimed that Bujair had sent a message to drug dealer Riyas Thoduvel, who was then in custody. According to reports, Riyas was released after the intervention of a local CPM leader. “No League activist visited the Kunnamangalam police station to seek my brother’s release. If he committed a crime, he must be punished. Neither I nor my family will intervene in the case because we believe crimes like drug trafficking must be completely wiped out from society,” Firoz added.
Meanwhile, Firoz dismissed CPM leader Bineesh Kodiyeri’s demand for his resignation from the Youth League State General Secretary post.
Addressing the media in Thiruvananthapuram, he demanded a detailed probe into the possible involvement of PK Firoz in the case and challenged the Youth League leader to adopt the same stance he had taken in the narcotics case against him. In 2020, Firoz had called for an investigation into Bineesh's alleged links to the Bengaluru drug racket after Kochi police arrested Anoop Mohammed with over 250 MDMA pills. Following this, the Enforcement Directorate arrested Bineesh on October 29, 2020.
