A wild bear attacked a tribal man on Sunday afternoon in the Dasanaghatta Forest Section, Tholpetty Forest Range of the North Wayanad Forest Division. The incident occurred when the man, along with other members of his settlement, was returning home after collecting honey from the forest. Belonging to the Kattunayikka tribe, the group had ventured into the forest as part of their routine of collecting honeycombs from treetops.
The injured man is Kumaran (50), a resident of Begur near Kattikkulam. Kumaran had gone to collect honey from the tree, along with a few other members of the tribal settlement, when the bear attacked him.
Alerted by others, the forest department officials from the Begur forest station rushed to the spot and shifted Kumaran to the Wayanad Government Medical College Hospital. As the leg injuries of Kumaran were deep and serious, he has been referred to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for better treatment.
