Kalamassery: Construction of an auditorium at the Government Polytechnic College campus, which began with an initial outlay of ₹3 crore, has remained abandoned for several years. The structure, originally designed to seat 1,000 people, has now become a shelter for stray dogs and is overrun with wild vegetation.

Authorities say the Public Works Department had informed them two years ago that an additional ₹10 crore would be required to complete the project. However, with nearly a decade having passed since the work was halted, the structure now stands engulfed by overgrown trees and shrubs. Officials have even raised doubts about whether the existing building can be salvaged for further construction.

A similar delay has affected the Women’s Polytechnic College nearby as the construction of a hostel building that began in September 2016 was completed only this year. However, the compound wall and gate are still pending, making it impossible to open the facility to students.
