Thiruvananthapuram: Heavy rain accompanied by gusty winds has continued to lash various parts of Kerala since Sunday night. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to very heavy rainfall across the state due to a cyclonic circulation over the Gulf of Mannar and adjoining southern Tamil Nadu.

An orange alert has been issued for six districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, and Thrissur — on Monday. All other districts are under a yellow alert.

An orange alert indicates very heavy rainfall (11–20 cm), while a yellow alert denotes heavy rainfall (6–11 cm).

In Thrissur, waterlogging due to continuous downpours disrupted traffic along the Athirappilly–Malakkappara route for hours. Tourists and KSRTC passengers were stranded after an overflowing canal submerged the road. Although traffic has since been restored, the district administration has temporarily shut down all tourist spots in the region due to adverse weather.
