Tirur: Incredible as it may sound, an injured parrot sought help from officers at the Kerala Fire and Rescue Service, who promptly responded to the bird’s call. It seemed, strangely, the parrot knew that fire and rescue personnel’s duties also involved saving birds too along with rescuing animals as well as humans in times of need.

A week ago, the injured parrot landed at the Fire and Rescue station in Tirur while escaping from a kite which was trying to make the bird its meal. Officers at the station took over the task of healing the parrot by applying medicines on its wounds and offering it feeds. They also arranged a cage to house the bird.

Now, every morning, the parrot would fly out of the cage, take a few rounds in the sky and then return. The bird would then happily hop on to the hands and shoulders of the officers who saved its life. In the evening, the parrot would enter the cage, where no kite could touch it.
