The India Meteorological Department (IMD) revised its forecast on Wednesday at 4 pm, issuing an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Kerala over the next two days, with forecasts anticipating over 20 cm of rain within 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, while no alerts are currently in place for the remaining districts.

In light of the heavy rainfall warning, the district administrations of Thrissur, Kannur, and Kasaragod declared a holiday for all schools on Wednesday as a precaution. In Thrissur and Kasaragod, the order covers all educational institutions, including professional colleges, CBSE and ICSE schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas, madrasas, anganwadis, and tuition centres. In Kannur, the holiday applies only to schools, anganwadis, religious education centres, and tuition centres. Previously scheduled examinations, however, will proceed as planned. Additionally, all mining activities and tourist access to sites in Kannur have been suspended for the day due to the red alert.

The IMD has also warned of strong winds along the Kerala coast, with speeds reaching up to 60 kmph. Fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea due to rough conditions. Piravom in Ernakulam district recorded the highest rainfall in the state over the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on August 5, with 22 cm, followed by Peechi with 13 cm.
