Piravom: The aqueduct at Marekkatt Kavala in Pambakuda under the Pambakuda lift irrigation project which supplies water to the farmlands in Ramamangalam and Pambakuda panchayats in Ernakulam district is on the verge of collapse. Many portions of the three-decade-old concrete structure have already fallen off, exposing the steel rods.

The Pambakuda lift irrigation project functions under the Department of Minor Irrigation. Under the project, water collected at Ooramana Methipara is pumped along Ramamangalam panchayat and wards 1,2 and 3 of Pambakuda panchayat to a canal. Pumps of 175 hp function under the project, which supplies water to the paddy fields at Memuri and Neythusalapady. The water also recharges wells in the area during summer as it flows to a stream from the canal.
