The state government has sanctioned the project to restore and modernise the power supply network and street lighting system in landslide-affected Chooralmala and Mundakkai at a cost of ₹25 crore. In March 2025, Chairman & Managing Director, Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd. (KSEBL) submitted a proposal for the restoration and modernisation of the electricity distribution network in the Chooralmala–Mundakkai landslide-affected area of Meppadi Gram Panchayath.
The area was severely impacted by a devastating landslide, resulting in extensive damage to the electricity network infrastructure. The proposal aims to rebuild and enhance the resilience of the power supply system to withstand any future disasters and support long-term rehabilitation. As part of the proposal, underground (UG) cabling for the power supply network will be implemented, and damaged transformers along the key roads in Meppadi Grama Panchayath will be replaced. Solar-powered LED street light systems and battery energy storage systems along the key roads will be implemented.
The SEC (State Executive Committee) in its meeting on July 18 decided that expenditure for the project shall be met from the ₹120 crore SDRF fund sanctioned by the High Court for immediate use by the state government in connection with rehabilitation activities in Wayanad, allowing relaxation of the SDRF/NDRF norms. The Chairman, KSEBL has been directed to ensure the completion of the projects on or before December 31.
