Thiruvananthapuram: A demand to open Vault B of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, which is believed to contain priceless treasure, was raised during a meeting of the Temple Advisory Committee and the Temple Administrative Committee.

The proposal came from M Velappan Nair, the State Government's representative on the Administrative Committee. However, none of the other members responded to his suggestion. The temple's chief priest, who holds key authority over decisions related to temple rituals, was not present at yesterday's meeting.

Vaults A and B are situated in the southwest corner of the temple, opening towards the northern and southern directions, respectively. They are located near the head of the idol of Sree Padmanabha Swamy, the temple's presiding deity.

As per a Supreme Court directive, Vault A was opened in June 2011, and its treasures were inventoried. However, due to widespread objections, the decision on opening Vault B was left to the temple's administrative and advisory committees.
