Kottayam: Gold ornaments weighing 50 sovereigns and valued at ₹36 lakh were stolen from a villa in Manganam early Saturday. According to the FIR, the thief broke open the main door and an iron shelf in the bedroom to steal the ornaments, which included necklaces, bangles, rings, earrings, and chains. Cupboards and shelves on the upper floor were also found broken into.

Police have registered a case under Sections 331(4) (punishment for house-trespass or housebreaking), 334(1) (dishonestly breaking open a receptacle containing property), and 305 (theft in dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

"We have obtained CCTV footage and are working to identify the thief, who is suspected to be from outside Kerala," said an officer from Kottayam East Police Station.
