Tirur: The municipality’s Take-a-Break building, inaugurated on Independence Day three years ago, will finally become operational before this year’s Independence Day.
The facility, located in front of the Tirur railway station, was inaugurated on August 15, 2022. However, it was shut down just two days after opening and has remained unused ever since. Built at a cost of ₹40 lakh, the building was intended to serve train passengers and visitors to the nearby court, police station, and Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala. The closure of he building without any specific reasons had sparked considerable public criticism.
Manorama had earlier reported on how the Take-a-Break facility was lying idle. Now, maintenance and beautification works are in progress, with new sewage tanks installed. The toilet is expected to reopen before August 15.
The contractor responsible for the Take-a-Break facility will also oversee the upkeep of the nearby Freedom Light memorial. Built by the Trikkandiyoor panchayat in honour of freedom fighters, the memorial had fallen into neglect. Although it was restored in 2022, a lack of maintenance led to damage to the surrounding plants and facilities.
