Thiruvananthapuram: NGOs SAATHII (Solidarity and Action against HIV infection in India), India Foundation for the Arts, and Sahayatrika, jointly organised an art workshop titled Conversation Circle, led by artist and researcher Ashlin here on Sunday. The event, held at Neighbour Terrace, brought together more than 15 participants of individuals assigned female at birth and people from diverse queer identities.

The initiative aimed to use art as a medium to revisit and share personal experiences related to gender-based bias in the healthcare sector and access to public toilets. The workshop began with a session by psychologist Hena, encouraging participants to share their lived experiences and explore possible solutions. Discussions covered the intersection of gender and public sanitation, the challenges faced in these spaces, and the reasons why such issues often remain unaddressed.

Special attention was given to the unique forms of discrimination and inadequacies faced by trans persons while accessing public toilets. In the zine-making session that followed, participants documented their visions for change in relation to public spaces, healthcare, public sanitation, and gender.
