Thrissur: When Thrissur MP and Union Minister Suresh Gopi remained absent from his constituency for a long period, it naturally worried the voters who had placed their trust in him. But the most unexpected attempt to track down the actor-turned-politician came from an unlikely source- the Congress-affiliated student wing, the Kerala Students Union (KSU).

On Sunday, the KSU district president, Gokul Guruvayoor, filed a complaint with the Thrissur East Police Station, saying that their 'honourable' Thrissur MP was missing from the constituency after two Keralite nuns were arrested in Chhattisgarh over charges of human trafficking.

Following the arrest of the nuns based on a complaint filed by the Bajrang Dal, Suresh Gopi remained silent on the issue, even as other MPs from Kerala spoke out demanding their release. The nuns were granted bail after spending nine days in custody.

The complaint, filed online, demands that Suresh Gopi be located immediately. "Following the recent fake human trafficking allegation in Chhattisgarh, nuns from Kerala were arrested, and action was taken by the BJP government there. Since then, Honourable MP Suresh Gopi has been conspicuously absent from the Thrissur parliamentary constituency. Therefore, I respectfully request an investigation into who is behind the disappearance of the Honourable Union Minister and BJP MP from Thrissur, Suresh Gopi, and to determine his current whereabouts,” Gokul stated in his complaint.

But Gokul isn't stopping there in his efforts to trace the Thrissur MP. He told Onmanorama that he plans to approach the Kerala High Court with a habeas corpus petition to locate the missing BJP leader.

"He hasn't been in the constituency for nearly three months. There are no upcoming programmes scheduled either. I tried reaching out to him, but he's unreachable. Even his office has no idea about his whereabouts. So where is our MP?" Gokul asked.

Onmanorama tried contacting Suresh Gopi, but he remained unreachable.

However, the BJP dismissed the complaint as a "blank fire" and blamed the Congress and Left parties for still being unwilling to accept Suresh Gopi’s victory from Thrissur, even after a year. "He has been involved in every important issue in the constituency and is present in Thrissur when it matters the most," said BJP Thrissur District President Justin Jacob. He added that Suresh Gopi had promptly intervened in the issue involving the nuns and that the church leadership is well aware of his efforts.

Thrissur East Police confirmed that they have received the complaint and said that they are reviewing the matter.

The complaint comes just a day after a Metropolitan of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church also remarked that he hadn't seen Suresh Gopi in Thrissur. "We Thrissur natives can't find the actor we elected and sent to Delhi — should we report him missing to the police?" he said in a tongue-in-cheek Facebook Post.
