Kozhikode: The Government General (Beach) Hospital has secured three national awards for operational excellence — the National Quality Assurance Standard (NQAS), Lakshya (for gynecology and related services) and Muskan (for pediatrics). In the NQAS survey conducted in July, the hospital achieved an impressive score of 90.66%.
The recognition was awarded based on factors such as infrastructure, hygiene, comprehensive documentation and patient satisfaction. In specific assessments, pregnancy-related surgery theatres scored 90.38%, the labour room 88.85% and the Muskan programme 92.07%.
With a capacity of 550 beds, the hospital’s NQAS recognition will bring an annual grant of ₹55 lakh, calculated at ₹10,000 per bed, for the next three years. On average, the OP department treats around 60,000 patients per month, while the IP department admits more than 1,500.
The facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization laboratory (Cath Lab), medical ICU, critical care units, labour rooms, dialysis facilities, pediatric ICU and the District Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) for children. The hospital staff includes 50 doctors including specialists, 390 permanent employees, 50 appointed through the National Health Mission and 132 staff recruited by the hospital development committee.
In recent years, the hospital has added to its accolades, receiving the State-level Kaya Kalpa Award in 2022–23 and being recognised as a Mother-Child Friendly Hospital last year. Hospital superintendent C K Jeevanalal lauded the quality assurance team, led by the quality nodal officer and all hospital staff whose dedication made these recognitions possible.
