Aranmula: A team of cleaning workers at Aranmula has set an example by returning a gold wrist chain they found during a cleaning drive in front of the Aranmula temple. The chain, weighing 2.5 sovereigns, was recovered by a five-member team of workers — Sujatha Krishnankutty, M C Shanthamma, K Vasumathy, Radhamani Raman, and P K Susheela — while cleaning the eastern entrance of the temple yesterday morning.
Without hesitation, the women took the chain to the Travancore Devaswom Board office and informed SI K R Hareendranathan Nair, who was on duty at the nearby police aid post. They then continued with their work.
About half an hour later, Manoj, a KSEB employee, approached the aid post to report the loss. He was directed to the Devaswom office, where officials asked him to describe the chain. After confirming his ownership, the chain was handed over to him in the presence of the cleaning workers.
The cleaning team, working under the leadership of the District Tourism Promotion Council, had earlier returned an anklet weighing 1.25 sovereigns found on the temple premises. All members of the team come from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, yet they have twice demonstrated honesty and integrity, setting a shining example for others.
