Cherpulassery: Crossing the road has become extremely difficult for pedestrians after Cherpulassery town got a brand-new road. Zebra lines are drawn at various spots on the road, but pedestrians have to wait for a long time to cross the road. All kinds of vehicles, from two-wheelers to huge vehicles, accelerate at maximum speed on the smooth road. No one seems to be interested in obeying the traffic rule that vehicles should slow down when they enter towns. Permanent police surveillance or CCTV cameras are absent in Cherpulassery, making it difficult for pedestrians.

People say that although zebra lines are available at many spots between Nellaya City and Kacheri, they are useless due to the speeding vehicles. Meanwhile, the pedestrians struggle the most near the bus stand area. They have to wait for a longer duration at the bus stand before they can cross the road. They complain that vehicles hardly slow down at the zebra crossing for the pedestrians to cross.

Hundreds of pedestrians, including women and students, face trouble every day due to this problem. Besides, accidents have also become common in the bus stand area due to overspeeding of vehicles. There are no proper parking facilities for vehicles in the Cherpulassery Town where maintenance works are almost done. Most people park their vehicles on the sides of the four-lane road, often causing traffic blockades. The four-lane road was built in the town to solve the severe traffic snarls here. However, rampant parking on the roadsides has only increased the traffic crisis.

Vehicles are often seen parked on either side of the four-lane road in the town. Meanwhile, buses stop in the middle of the road to board or drop the passengers, causing long traffic blockades.

Complaints that vehicles coming to the shops are parked on the road rather than the allotted parking space are rife. This problem could be solved only by arranging proper parking facilities in the town. Besides, people have been urging changes in the location of the autorickshaw stand. The trail of autorickshaws at its stand near the bus station often extends onto the road. This causes severe traffic blocks, especially when the buses enter and leave the stand. The public has been demanding strict traffic guidelines and regulations in the town ahead of the busy Onam season.
