Voters in Lok Sabha poll ‘vanish’ from local body list in Thrissur; Congress alleges fraud

Thrissur: The Congress-led UDF and CPM-led LDF have long alleged large-scale fraudulent voter enrolment in Thrissur, claiming that addresses of flats were misused to register people who are not permanent residents of the city. Now, concrete examples of this alleged malpractice have surfaced.
One key complaint involves 45 allegedly bogus voters registered in booth number 30 under Poonkunnam ward of Thrissur Corporation, all shown as residing in just four apartment complexes — Capital Village, Top Paradise, Sree Sankari, and Chaitram.
A comparison of the 2024 Lok Sabha voters’ list with that for the upcoming local body polls reveals startling discrepancies. Of the 45 names:
- 14 are voters in wards outside Thrissur Lok Sabha constituency for the local body election.
- 29 do not appear on any local body voters’ list in the state.
- Just 2 remain in divisions within the Thrissur constituency — one in Valappad and one in Choondal.
The Congress points out that, according to the Lok Sabha list, several residents of the same “house” are now registered in entirely different districts and panchayats for the local polls.
Voters shifted to other districts
A closer look shows several of the 45 voters now on local body lists in other districts: Jithesh (Atholi panchayat, Kozhikode), S Ajayakumar and S Santhosh Kumar (Thiruvananthapuram Corporation), G Hariprasad (Thiruvalla municipality, Pathanamthitta), Anijamol (Thalayazham panchayat, Kottayam), Veena (Velingode panchayat, Malappuram), and Asokan (Mulanthuruthy panchayat, Ernakulam).
Voters shifted to Alathur constituency
Others are now listed under the Alathur Lok Sabha seat: Monish (Kunnamkulam municipality), Haridasan (Veloor), Sugesh (Avanoor), Laveesh (Kattakampal), Saneesh (Veloor), Sumi (Thekkumkara), and P Saranya (Kaiparambu, Veloor).
Adding to the anomalies, the party claims one person appears to have double voting rights. The Congress has filed a formal complaint, saying these irregularities prove deliberate voter list manipulation.
