Punnapra in Alappuzha gets new readymade warping khadi loom centre

Punnapra: The Khadi Village Industries Board, in association with the Punnapra South Panchayat, has launched a new readymade warping khadi loom centre near the Viyani Church Kurishadi.
The centre, which has housed a thread manufacturing unit since its inception in 1984, now features a readymade warping unit and three additional looming units. These have been set up to facilitate the stitching of khadi garments tailored to consumer preferences, alongside the existing thread manufacturing operations.
H Salam, MLA, inaugurated the new facility. The Panchayat has sanctioned Rs.19 lakh for the restoration of the centre. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Salam announced that funds would also be allocated for spinning wheels for 10 thread manufacturing units. Panchayat president P G Cyrus presided over the function.
Khadi Board Secretary K S Ratheesh and Project Officer P M Laila outlined the project details. Panchayat Vice President Sudharma Bhuvanachandran, Standing Committee Chairperson Sulabha Shaji, Geeha Babu, Jean Mary Jacob, Shakkeela Nisar, Judi, and Khadi Development Officer R Anoop also spoke.
