Cinnakanal: Darkness grips Chinnakanal region as soon as the sky gets cloudy or a gust of wind flows through the hilly area. KSEB continues its apathy even as power cuts have become a regular thing here. Local residents say that vines and bushes have conquered the electric posts and lines in the Chinnakanal – Suryanelli road and many other places. It is quite precarious even to travel close to these posts during the monsoon. Wild elephants too might get electrocuted if they accidently touch or come in contact with the posts and lines that are covered in ‘greenery’. Meanwhile, people have been urging the authorities to trim the branches of the trees that have grown over the lines.

Local residents complain that the KSEB officials didn’t take any action even when electricity went out for hours in the Chinnakanal area recently. Chinnakanal region comes under the limits of KSEB Rajakumari section.

Chinnakanal often goes dark even when other areas under the Rajakumari section enjoys uninterrupted power supply. People of the locality demand to appoint more officials at Chinnakanal considering the logistical difficulty of officials and technicians from Rajakumari reaching Chinnakanal for maintanence and repair works whenever there are power cuts.
