The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday dismissed as fake the social media posts seeking monetary contributions to a purported government-linked bank account in connection with the Nimisha Priya case.

According to a social media post circulating online, people were urged to transfer money directly to a "Government of India designated account" to raise around ₹8.3 crore. Clarifying the matter, MEA said all these posts are fake.

"We have seen claims being made on social media seeking monetary contributions into a GoI designated bank account in the Nimisha Priya case. This is a fake claim," MEA Factcheck said in a post on X.

Nimish Priya, a Malayali nurse, has been on death row in Yemen after being convicted of murdering a local citizen, Talal Abdul Mahdi. She was sentenced to death in 2020 and her final appeal was rejected in 2023, but her execution has been postponed for now.

India remains engaged in diplomatic discussions with Yemen and other friendly countries to secure relief for her. The Supreme Court was recently told there’s no immediate threat, as negotiations with the victim's family continue. The top court adjourned the case for eight weeks, awaiting diplomatic and legal developments.
