Thiruvananthapuram: Minister for General Education, V Sivankutty, on Wednesday announced that all students covered under Kerala’s midday meal scheme will receive 4 kg of rice each for Onam. A total of 24,77,337 children, from pre-primary to Class 8, will benefit from this initiative.

The distribution will be carried out using stocks of the Civil Supplies Corporation (Supplyco), which has been tasked with delivering rice directly to schools. To cover the delivery, an additional 50 paise per kg will be provided over the existing transport charges.

To avoid disruption, Supplyco has been directed to bring rice from depots in neighbouring districts in case of shortages. The additional expenses will be managed within the approved transportation rates.
