Palakkad: Amid the allegations against MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil, the Palakkad municipality barred him from attending the inauguration of a municipal bus stand scheduled for Friday.

In a letter sent to the MLA, Palakkad municipal deputy chairman Adv E Krishnadas asked him to refrain from attending the event, citing the possibility of protests.

Rahul had earlier been invited as the chief guest for the inauguration ceremony of the municipal bus stand scheduled for August 22 at 4 pm. However, the municipal authorities decided to withdraw the invitation, fearing that demonstrations could disrupt the event.

Rahul Mamkoottathil resigned from the post of Youth Congress state president following allegations of sending obscene messages to some women. The controversy erupted after Malayalam actor Rini Ann George alleged that a young politician had sent her obscene messages. Though she did not name Rahul, she claimed the person is a public representative holding senior positions in a major political party in Kerala.

Within hours, writer Honey Bhaskaran also came forward, alleging that Rahul had initiated a conversation with her on Instagram and later made derogatory remarks about her to others. Leaving the MLA and the Congress in a tight spot, screenshots of alleged chats between Rahul and several women surfaced online. But, Rahul dismissed the allegations against him and declared that he would take legal steps. He added that he decided to step down from the Youth Congress state president post to avoid attacks against his party.

Meanwhile, a Kochi-based lawyer has filed a complaint with the Ernakulam Central police and the Child Rights Commission, alleging that Rahul forced a woman to undergo an abortion.
