Thrissur: The BJP Mahila Morcha staged a unique protest on Saturday demanding the resignation of Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkoottathil. As part of the agitation, women activists placed a cradle in front of the K Karunakaran statue at West Fort here, symbolising their protest against the Congress leader.

Rahul Mamkoottathil is facing allegations of sexual harassment and of forcing a woman to undergo an abortion. Complaints regarding the matter have already been filed with the Ernakulam Central Police and the State Child Rights Commission.

Mahila Morcha state president Navya Haridas launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of shielding the MLA.

“Congress has reached a stage where cradles need to be tied in front of all its offices,” she said while inaugurating the protest. She also criticised Opposition Leader VD Satheesan for ignoring complaints against Rahul.

“Whether Rahul Mamkoottathil holds a party post or not, it does not matter to us. But he is unfit to continue even for a single moment as an MLA,” she added.

Mahila Morcha district president Sheetal Raj presided over the function. BJP state secretary Anjana Ranjith, BJP North District president Adv. Nivedita Subrahmanian, and Mahila Morcha state general secretaries Sini Manoj, RC Beena, and Sreeja C Nair also participated.
