Ambalayavayal: Passengers crossing the inter-state border at Cheladi beware. Carrying lottery tickets from Kerala in hand could get you into trouble with the Tamil Nadu police.

The issue came to light when a group traveling from the district crossed into Tamil Nadu through the check post. During a routine vehicle inspection, police found Kerala lottery tickets with three passengers. Officers warned that possession of such tickets in Tamil Nadu was illegal and could lead to arrest and a civil case.

The police further demanded that the tickets be torn up in front of them if the passengers wished to proceed without paying a fine. After a heated argument that lasted several hours, the passengers were allowed to continue their journey but only after paying a fine of Rs.300, with Rs. 100 for each ticket. The lottery tickets were also seized into police custody.
