Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is expected to witness heavy rainfall till  August 28 under the influence of a low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for six districts—Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod—on Tuesday.

“Heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm in 24 hours) is very likely at one or two places in Kerala from August 26 to 28, 2025,” the IMD forecast stated. Northern districts are expected to be most affected.

The department has also issued a warning to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea off the Kerala, Karnataka and Lakshadweep coasts from Tuesday to Wednesday due to adverse weather. Strong winds reaching speeds of 40–60 kmph are likely during this period.
