Chavassery: The Iritty municipality in Kannur district has initiated preventive measures against waterborne diseases such as amoebic meningoencephalitis and jaundice, which are being detected widely in some parts of the state.

The municipality also organised a meeting of stakeholders and conducted an awareness class following a directive from the government to implement urgent measures against the spread of the diseases.

In the first phase, all houses in the municipal limits will be chlorinated by teams comprising health workers, Asha workers, Haritha Karma Sena members and Kudumbashree volunteers. “We will complete this task by August 31,” said municipal chairperson K Sreelatha.

Sreelatha launched the chlorination drive on the Chavassery old post office premises in the presence of health standing committee chairperson K Soya and councilors V Sasi and C Bindu. District resource person of Haritha Keralam Mission Jayaprakash Panthakka explained about the project. Health supervisor at Taluk Hospital Rajesh V James and C K Shibu Mon conducted classes. The others who spoke at the function included P K Balkees, junior health inspector Swapna, Sreya and M Geetha.
