IT hub Kakkanad hosts cattle exhibition, contest

Kakkanad: A cattle exhibition and contest organised at Kakkanad in Kochi – known for IT parks and high-rise residential areas - on Sunday provided a unique opportunity for the new generation to learn about milch cows, heifers and calves.
Breeds such as Sahiwal, Holstein Friesian, Gir, Jersey and Vechoor lined up for the event conducted at a ground in Thuthiyoor by Edappally block panchayat and Dairy Development Department.
Prizes were also given to owners of the best animals in various categories. Zia Karapparambil, M N Jayaprakash Palachuvadu and Molly Francis won the first three prizes for their cows. Ratnamma Chathamveli, Ramani Puthenparambil and Daksha J Nair secured the first, second and third prizes respectively for heifers. The first prize for calves was won by Raphael Thattassery, second prize by Zia Karapparambil and third prize by Leena Karapparambil.
Chairperson of Thrikkakkara municipality Radhamany Pillai inaugurated the exhibition. Vice-chairman T G Dinoop presided over the inaugural function. Those who spoke included chairperson of the block panchayat standing committee Vivek Haridas, president of Chittethukara Milk Cooperative Society M N Giri and Parvathy Krishnaprasad.
